If your lips are chapped apply some Vaseline and softly rub your lips with a soft muslin cloth to remove dead skin leaving your lips looking healthier.
  • The first step to a fashionable mouth is to define your lipline, if you want to make your lips appear smaller use colours like dark berry or chocolate shades which make lips look thinner also apply the liner on the inner boundary of your natural line. Make even more of your mouth by applying little gloss in the middle of your lower lip.
  • After a proper definition apply your lipstick with a lip brush this gives a more even and lasting look to the lipstick, then blot with a tissue. You can dust some powder through a single ply tissue to achieve a sophisticated matte look or reapply another coat of lipstick for intense colour.
  • If you always land up with lipstick on your teeth than simply put your index finger in your mouth, close your lips around it and slowly pull it out of your mouth. The residue will stick to your finger.

Chapped Lips

Unlike your skin, your lips don't have oil glands to keep them lubricated and contain very little melanin, or pigment, to shield them from the sun. This lack of natural protection makes your lips extremely vulnerable to chapping-especially by the sun. Avoid matte or mood lipstick if your lips chap easily. These lipstick can stain and dry lips, leaving them open to chapping or an allergic or irritant reaction.

Three Ways to Chap-proof Your Lips

You can choose from three basic types of lip protection: plain lip balm, lip balms with added sunscreen and lip balms formulated with sunblock. While all of these products can keep lips smooth and pretty, you need to know how to use them and when.

Lip Balms

Formulated with emollients like petrolatum, lanolin, cocoa butter, aloe and sometimes wax, lip balms both prevent and heal chapped lips by sealing in moisture. Balms keep lips moist, not sun-safe. But used indoors, balms shield lips from dry indoor air and may even prevent cold-induced fever blisters.

Lip Balms with added Sunscreens

These products shield your lips from the sun and contain some of the same chemical sunscreens found in skin sunscreens, like padimate-O or oxybenzone. Most dermatologists recommend using a lip sunscreen with a sun protection factor, or SPF, of at least 15. Lip screens also protect your lips from other drying elements, like wind, salt water and chlorine, and may even keep you from sprouting a sun-induced fever blister.

Slick on a lip balm with sunscreen whenever you venture outdoors, be it to walk the dog, play tennis or bike through the park. Apply the product 20 minutes before you go out yo allow it to really sink skin, and reapply after your swim, eat, drink or perspire.

Lip Balms with added Sunblock

Physical sunblocks like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide protect you lips by diffusing and scattering all UV light. Choose a lip block if you'll be exposed to high doses of sun-while sailing or sunny-slope skiing.

Natural Remedies for Chapped Lips

Cold Sores and Fever Blisters Lips

Red, raised fluid-filled blisters that typically appear on the lips. Blisters are usually preceded by tingling, discomfort, or pain in the area. Cold sores typically last seven to ten days as blisters grow, break. Crust, and slough off. Cold sores can also develop on the nose, cheeks, finger, or inside the mouth.

Cold sores and fever blisters are caused by herpes simplex virus 1, which lurks in a dormant state and can be activated by stress, menstrual difficulties, sunburn, or any illness with fever. The sores and blisters may spread to the inside of the mouth as canker sores. Toothbrushes are a heaven for the virus. If you have a cold sore, switch to a new toothbrush when the blister breaks and again after it has healed.

Natural Remedies

Aloe vera gel from a freshy cut plant contains antibacterial, anti-fungi substances that are lacking in the commercially stabilized gel. Application of the gel at the onset often forestalls cold sores.

B-complex vitamins, taken in high-potency tablet twice daily, may abort an incipient cold sore.

Sponge triple-strength red clover tea over the cold sore several times daily. Or three times a day, sip a cup of hot sage tea into which you have stirred a teaspoon of powdered ginger. Ice. Holding a chip of ice against an erupting sore may halt its development.

Prescription treatment

Cold sores usually clear up on their own within a week, but the virus is not curable and can cause future sores. Prescription antiviral ointments or pills can help speed the healing of frequently recurring sores..

Prevention

Avoid kissing or close contact with others while blisters are forming, present, or healing. Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your mouth and then touching other parts of your body. Don't pick at blisters. Use a lip balm with a sunblock on your lips year-round.
